Aciré Polight is a Brooklyn native and community organizer, fighting for a better democracy.
Aciré Polight is an African American woman born and raised in Bushwick. In the 1950s, her grandparents migrated to Bushwick from South Carolina. Since then, Bushwick is the only home Aciré knows. Aciré is a product of New York City public schools, attending pre-K - 8th grade right here in the district she seeks to serve. To this day, she continues to volunteer and support her local elementary school P.S. 45K. Through volunteering at schools, Aciré noticed the lack of resources and funding public schools in black and brown communities received. In 2016, after not seeing positive impactful changes in the community, Aciré applied to be a member of Brooklyn Community Board 4. She currently serves on the Executive Board to help bring positive changes to Bushwick residents. Aciré believes a lack of engagement from our elected officials has negatively harmed residents in the neighborhood. There is currently lack of affordable housing, under enrolled public schools, and an increase of children homelessness. Aciré is running to be your next District Leader for Assembly District 54 to help better the quality of life in our community.
