What Is A District Leader and What Do They Do?
In Kings County (Brooklyn), the position is formally named State Committee Member. However, widely referred to as District Leader. On Election Day you are liable to see State Committee Member on the ballot. This is an unpaid role within the Democratic Party.
District Leaders in Brooklyn sit on the Executive Committee of the Kings County Democratic Party, endorse judicial candidates, staff poll sites, select party leaders, vote on county party rules, and turn out Democrats for elections.
State Committee Members sit on the New York State Democratic Committee (they have their own Executive Board), vote on State party business, and have final say in choosing delegates to the Democratic National Convention.
